What is your favorite soprano Mozart aria?
And who do you think is the best modern Mozartian soprano? I like Cecilia Bartoli for the lighter roles and Diana Damrau for the coloratura roles.
My favourite Mozart soprano aria, is “Dove Sono” from Le Nozze di Figaro. Sung by Kiri Te Kanawa.
Needless to say, I think Kiri Te Kanawa is one of the best (she’s the best for me) modern Mozartian sopranos. In fact, she’s my favourite soprano! I just heard the recording of her singing Brahms’s “A German Requiem” solo soprano aria on the local classical radio station (I’ve heard the recording before this), and she sounds absolutely divine there.
For lighter Mozart roles (like soubrette, lyric coloratura or light lyric roles), I like Maria Bayo. She’s a Spanish soprano who has a beautiful light lyric voice. She sings Zerlina’s aria “Batti, batti, o bel Masetto” beautifully! Unfortunately I can’t find it on Youtube. Here’s her singing the Countess/Susanna letter duet from Le Nozze di Figaro:
